This is the first retreat put on by On Reasonable Ground. We are excited to announce our line-up of speakers which includes: Dr. Phil Fernandes, Nathan Betts and Duane Morris. Dr. Phil Fernandes is President of the Institute of Biblical Defense and Pastor of Trinity Bible Fellowship in Bremerton, Nathan Betts is an Itinerant Speaker with Ravi Zacharias International Ministry (RZIM) and Duane Morris is the Founder and President of On Reasonable Ground.
The weekend Retreat will include 15 sessions with our tremendous speakers on different subjects and questions pertaining to Apologetics and a clear defense of the Christian Faith. We will focus on thinking about our Faith, as we pursue Truth while utilizing Reason and seeking to communicate with Wisdom.
Our Topics for the weekend will include: The Uniqueness of the Christian God, Navigating the Problem of Evil, Religious Pluralism, What does it mean to be Human?, Is God the cause of Evil?, Discussing the Exclusivity of Christianity, The Insufficiency of Tolerance, The Evidence for the NT Canon, the Reliability of the Bible, Reasoning for the Existence of God, Apologetics and Culture...
Our time together will include some meals together and the opportunity to interact with the speakers outside of the sessions. We will be in Renton so that you can stay at the Hotel and get away from the norms of life and focus on the intellectual aspect of the Christian Faith. We will start on Friday, September 27th around 4:05, with check-in from 3:00-3:55, and we will finish on Sunday by noon. There will be a break Saturday afternoon during which you can engage in a local activity.

Our Speakers:
Nathan Betts is an Itinerant Speaker at RZIM. He speaks frequently across the US and Canada. His focus areas include the interface of faith and culture, questions on suffering and the existence of God, digital technology and belief, and youth apologetics. His writing has been featured in The Seattle Times and Christianity Today. Nathan is passionate about exploring the ways in which the Christian faith helps us make sense of the questions of human value and meaning amidst the complexity of everyday life.
Nathan completed his undergraduate degree at Tyndale University and his MA in Bible and Ministry at King’s College, University of London. He is also a graduate of the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and leads RZIM’s North America youth initiative. He is an avid percussionist and a keen baseball fan. Nathan and his wife, Brittany, live near Seattle, Washington, with their young children.
Dr. Phil Fernandes is the senior pastor of Trinity Bible Fellowship and the president of the Institute of Biblical Defense. He is professor of apologetics and religion for Veritas InternationalUniversity. He also teaches at Crosspoint Academy and Shepherds Bible College in Bremerton, WA. He has completed doctoral work in both philosophy of religion and theological studies. Dr. Fernandes has publicly debated leading atheists at Princeton University, Washington State University, the State University of New York (Oswego), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as other schools. He has authored several books dealing with the defense of the Christian faith. Dr. Fernandes and his wife Cathy have two daughters and three grandsons.
Duane Morris attended Talbot School of Theology and received his Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics in 1998. Duane is the Founder and President of On Reasonable Ground, equipping students to defend their faith and answer questions with confidence. On Reasonable Ground has focused on working with students at the University of Washington for 14 years. He works with students on campus to help them defend their Faith through Apologetics and Biblical interpretation within a two-year discipleship program. He is also reaching beyond the campus to help equip churches through seminars and conference events. Duane has also been a college pastor, is an avid Seahawks fan and lives in the Seattle area with his wife Ann and their two young daughters.
